The last post stated that there would be skittles at the 30p Day on 4 May – this should read ‘short mat bowling’.

Please add your name to the lists on the Club noticeboards if you intend to come along.
Opening Day – Outdoor Season
The Club held its Opening Day for the outdoor season on Saturday 14 April. Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather over recent months, it was not possible for any play to take place on the Green. However, the Mayor (Councillor Phillip Sanders) and his Consort (Mrs Jan Smallacombe) attended along with 48 bowlers. The Mayor, as President of the Club, officially opened the Green by bowling the first wood of the season. Following this, a ceremony took place to unveil a wooden bench which had been installed in memory of John Timmins, who sadly died last year, as a tribute to his tremendous support of the Club over many years. Everyone then retired to the Clubhouse for tea and, despite not being able to play, enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon.
Short Mat Spring & Summer Sessions
During the outdoor bowling season, Short Mat sessions will continue on Monday & Friday mornings commencing at 10.00am in the Clubhouse as from Monday 16 April.
Short Mat Charity Cheque Presentation
At the April Coffee Morning, a cheque for £200 was presented to Fiona Williams, as a representative of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, by Linda Gobby on behalf of the Short Mat Bowling section. The money had been raised over the past year following the payment of fines every time a bowler’s wood hit the wooden block positioned partway down the mat. Fiona explained the role of the Fund in raising money for research into early detection, new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for pancreatic cancer.
Opening Day – Saturday 14 April
Unfortunately, due to the recent bad weather, it’s not going to be possible to get the Green in the right condition for playing on the Opening Day. However, the event will still take place starting at 2.00pm with the Mayor in attendance to officially start the new outdoor season. The family of John Timmins will also be in attendance for the dedication of the new bench in his honour. Tea will be served as usual in what will be a social afternoon at the Club. Members are asked to wear their Club shirts and greys.
