Devon Colours for Two Club Members

Tony Smith & Tony Boxall were awarded their Devon Colours after representing Devon in a County match against City & County of Bristol – Devon won the game 121-66. To qualify for the award, each player had to amass 30 competition points. Only one point is awarded for winning any round in Devon-wide competitions, so it has taken several years to gain the total amount required.

Summer Barn Dance

The Club held a Summer Barn Dance on Saturday 22 June and it was a great success with all tickets sold out well in advance. The event was organised by Brian & Angela Lamb with help from Mike Felles & Brian Davis in setting up and Charles & Brenda Carter in running the bar. Hay bales were provided by Brian Davis and foliage decoration by Rob & Glo Rawlings. A pasty supper was supplied along with cakes made and donated by Bill Hunt. The caller for the evening was Jeremy Childs whose enthusiasm and instruction had the dance floor filled for most of the evening. As well as being a wonderful event, a profit of over £500 on ticket & bar sales was made for Club funds.

Outdoor Bowls Annual Tournament

The Club held its Annual Outdoor Tournament on Sunday 2 June. Despite a period of rain partway through, it was a very successful day with 20 teams competing from across Devon and Cornwall. The winners were a three-generational team from Bere Alston comprising Keith & Sue Whiting with their son, Paul, and granddaughter, Holly. The runners-up were from the Madeira Bowling Club in Exmouth, comprising Richard Prince, Deirdre Norman, Linda Halpin and Alan Halpin. Thanks go to the local businesses who sponsored the event and to those who donated prizes for the raffle.
