Closing Day of Outdoor Bowls Season 2023

Around 40 members attended to take part in a charity game of bowls before the Green was closed on Saturday 23 September. A theme of red, white & blue was set for the afternoon and players excelled themselves with a wide range of amazing outfits. The aim of the day was to raise money for TASS, the Club’s Charity of the Year. A very enjoyable Cream Tea was provided after the game together with a raffle – proceeds from both of these will go to TASS, along with monies raised during the game.

Message from Stephen Hartley
Stephen has sent the following by email from Australia and also two photos.
“The Para competition is complete and we came away with Bronze – which is a fair reflection on my skills as the Silver and Gold medallists have 10-20 years international experience and that showed when it came to pressure shots. South Africa got Silver and Australia Gold. However, in group stages, we did hold Australia to a draw. Due to Covid, the championships were delayed so the next one is in two years time in Hong Kong. Hopefully, I’ll be in the selections to try again. Missing you all!”

Results from the Bowls World Championships
Having reached the semi-finals, Stephen & Alison were beaten by the South African team, 17 shots to 8 shots. South Africa went into the final where the host country, Australia, came out as victors. Congratulations to Stephen & Alison for doing so well!
