Unfortunately, persistent heavy rain during the morning rendered the Green unplayable for the final game of the season on Saturday 20 September. However, after a later start than normal, Members and guests enjoyed a very sociable afternoon in the Clubhouse. Luckily, the skies cleared in time for the barbeque to be fired up and a wonderful spread was prepared for those in attendance. Two events were celebrated during the event. Firstly, in honour of long-standing Club Member Norman Paramor’s 90th birthday, a lovely cake had been made which was shared with those present. Secondly, in memory of former Club Member and Bar Manager, Charles (Chas) Carter, a plaque was presented to his widow, Brenda – the plaque will be placed above the bar naming it Chas’s Bar. Pictured below are Norman cutting his cake and Brenda receiving the plaque from the Club’s Vice Chairman, Tony Smith.
A combined men’s team from Tavistock & Plymouth Sir Francis Drake Bowling Clubs beat a Plymouth Select team by 158-104 to retain the Golden Hind Trophy. Tony Smith, Tavistock Men’s Captain, is seen here with Paul Carmichael, Club Captain of Plymouth Sir Francis Drake.
Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club was the venue for an event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS). Students from Mount Kelly College attended to provide a live performance of choir & solo singing and instrumentation.
Also in attendance were users and staff of TASS together with the Mayor of Tavistock, Councillor Mrs Anne Johnson. Everyone had the opportunity to try out bowling and the guests all enjoyed an afternoon Cream Tea in the clubhouse.
Tavistock Sir Francis Bowling Club had the honour of hosting a Devon County Ladies team match against Section 7 Ladies on Tuesday 24th June.
The Section 7 players came from various Plymouth clubs together with representatives from Yelverton, Bere Alston and Tavistock SFD bowling clubs. The five members participating from Tavistock were Sylvia McIntosh, Sally Jenkins, Jo Albon, Margaret Davies & Wendy Wroe.
The weather was kind and the match was very competitive with Devon Ladies narrowly winning by 101-98. An afternoon tea was served and the whole event was greatly enjoyed by all those taking part.

Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club opened their season for 2025 on Saturday 12 April with 48 members taking part. It was the first time that the Club kit was worn, consisting of navy trousers and new style tops. Sadly after weeks of lovely sunny weather, the rain decided to pay a visit during the afternoon. Undaunted, Members played on and the sun finally shone through again. Members also enjoyed an excellent tea halfway through the game, with cakes & savouries donated by members.
